BASW Senior Rashaad Bess was selected by the San Francisco Human Rights Commission to present the Dream Keeper Initiative to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors last April 18. The Dream Keeper Initiative focused on changing the narratives for Black/African-American communities through the story-telling of older Black/African-American adults living in San Francisco. Rashaad was instrumental in spearheading this initiative and publishing the narratives in a book, My life. My stories. The life stories of Curry Senior Center Clients. . The initiative is now being replicated. Rashaad received a grant from the Mental Health Service Act (MHSA) to replicate and expand the program to include monolingual and limited English-speakers. Congratulations, Rashaad, for your significant contribution to the African-American older adult community in San Francisco!
