Ricka White-Soso Facilitates a Mental Health Panel

Ricka White-Soso, MSW, LCSW, a lecturer in the School of Social Work, was an Honoree and facilitated a mental health panel titled, "No Boundaries in Mental Health" for the Grand Worthy Matron's Special Project in Oakland, CA, on April 27. The hosting organization chose this topic to support its members as it had experienced a number of losses including two deaths by suicide at the end of 2023. White-Soso used the metaphor of the need to return to the "kitchen table talks" as families, friends, and communities, especially all POC, to provide a safe place to have difficult conversations and offer support to each other.

Ricka encourages her students to do... be in their communities. She said," I tell my students, "Either you can be a Social Worker that clocks in and out of work or you can hone in on your craft and become THE Social Worker."
