Biography

Ms. Fischer has over 20 years of experience in the field of social work spanning various practice settings such as community mental health agencies, child welfare agencies, and education settings. Most recently, she worked in clinical practice as a bilingual therapist for recent immigrants from Mexico and Central America at a grassroots non-profit agency in San Rafael's Canal District.  Previously, Ms. Fischer was the IV-E Program and Policy Analyst for the California Social Work Education Center (CalSWEC) based in the School of Social Welfare at UC Berkeley. Here, her work centered on developing curriculum for social work programs statewide, as well as facilitating meetings with project coordinators across the state.  Before joining CalSWEC, she worked as the Title IV-E Project Coordinator at the School of Social Work at San Francisco State University.  She also has previous experience in direct service as a mental health clinician for Child and Adolescent Mental Health in Richmond and as a child welfare worker for Contra Costa County.  

Ms. Fischer earned a Masters in Social Work, a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology, and Bachelors of Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, knitting, and hiking. Ms. Fischer was born and raised in Chile but has been a Bay Area resident for over 25 years.  She is bilingual in Spanish.
